Sustainabel reporting mandatory soon?

To improve the transparency of large enterprises, the European Commission wants to introduce a mandatory reporting on sustainability issues. As part of its annual accounting companies (from 500 employees) should release their policies, results and risk-related aspects in relation to environmental, social and labor issues, human rights and the fight against corruption. The Commission considers that the release of environmental and social aspects will immediately strengthen the competitiveness of enterprises. It has been found that companies which communicate this issues are more successful overall, esp. in financing or in the acquisition of talented stuff, so the European Commissioner Michel Barnier. German sustainability organizations react quite differently to the announcement: reply’s ranging from "impractical" to "long overdue".
